Royals Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)  ...more ?

It is unusual for a pitcher to go three innings in his first spring training outing, but Zack Greinke did Friday. He easily could have gone four.

Greinke utilized just 27 pitches, 19 for strikes, in three scoreless innings against the Rangers. David Murphy's single on a hanging changeup with two out in the first was the only hit Greinke allowed.

"It's more getting up and down than anything," Greinke said in going out for another inning. "It's just not smart."

The Royals do not want do anything to jeopardize Greinke's golden arm after he won the American League Cy Young award last year with a major league best 2.16 ERA.

Manager Trey Hillman said that despite Greinke's low pitch total, there was no consideration of sending him out for the fourth inning in his...

Royals catcher Jason Kendall has returned to spring training and says his divorce and child custody case won't be a distraction. Kendall missed the exhibition game Monday against Cincinnati to be in court in Los Angeles. He returned on Tuesday and told reporters he will not "dignify the ridiculous accusations" being carried by various media outlets about his divorce.

Chapman impresses in Reds' 14-5 win over Royals (AP)  ...more ?

Scouts behind home plate trained their radar guns on Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman as the left-hander prepared to throw. When the ball smacked the catcher's mitt, they'd glance back at the gun and find an eye-popping number. The left-hander hit 100 mph at least three times during his spring training debut Monday, throwing two scoreless innings during the Cincinnati Reds' 14-5 victory...

Royals third baseman Alex Gordon is expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks with a broken right thumb. Manager Trey Hillman said Sunday that Gordon probably will miss Kansas City's April 5 opener against Detroit, but the No. 2 overall pick in the 2005 draft is optimistic about his chances of playing.

Perfectionist Zack Greinke's first spring start for the decidedly non-perfect Royals seems at once familiar and new.
Greinke stellar in spring debut for Royals (AP)  ...more ?
Zack Greinke spent spring training last year working on a changeup and ended up with a 9.21 ERA -- then he dominated the regular season and won the Cy Young Award. This is a pitcher-catcher partnership that Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Rich Harden could like. GM Moore confident Royals going in right direction (AP)  ...more ?
Nearly four years after Dayton Moore was hired to turn the Kansas City Royals around, they still aren't turned. Judged solely by wins and losses, last year was even a step backward. Hampered by injuries, the Royals wound up 65-97, 10 fewer wins than the year before in spite of Zack Greinke's Cy Young Award season.

Royals' Butler back after breakthrough year (AP)  ...more ?
If Billy Butler's breakthrough season of 2009 had come in New York, Los Angeles or Boston, the barrel-chested first baseman would likely be one of baseball's most celebrated young hitters. Fame is hard to come by in a major league backwater like Kansas City, which hasn't hosted a postseason game in 25 years -- even for young athletes who achieve a level of excellence known only to an...

Given Kansas City's on-base percentage last season, it's hard to call Kevin Seitzer's first year as Royals hitting coach a success. It could even be called a failure. Nevertheless, Seitzer figures year No. 2 should be better for many reasons. The arrival of some savvy, experienced newcomers should help.
